THE OFFICIAL HOME OF

THE B.O.B GOLF TOURNAMENT
History of The B.O.B
In the summer of 2022, at 20 years old Shawn Gerber was working an internship out of state and wanted a fun, competitive way to reconnect with friends when he returned where they could share stories from their summer and enjoy a little friendly rivalry. Golf became the perfect avenue. What began as a simple idea quickly turned into the first Battle of Batavia (B.O.B), organized from Quincy, IL, featuring 16 players competing in head‑to‑head matchups and an overall two‑man scramble for a modest prize pool.
From the start, the tournament has been about far more than golf. It’s about joy, friendship, and the connections that matter most. The magic of The B.O.B isn’t found in the prizes or the golf—it’s found in the people who play. Although the event has always been led by its founder, no great tournament thrives without the support of many. The B.O.B extends its sincere thanks to all who have contributed along the way and continue to help make this tradition special.

Growth Through the Years
Year 2 welcomed 28 players as the tournament moved to Terry Hills, and its growing turnout proved just how much impact a group of friends could create. That momentum carried into Year 3, which saw the tournament’s largest leap yet: 53 competitors of all skill levels, from first‑timers to low handicappers, returning to Batavia Country Club, where the event has now found its home.
Year 4 added a new layer of emotion and energy. With 84 players, dedicated tournament staff, media presence, community engagement, and generous donations, the event evolved into something even more meaningful. Each year brings not only a deeper love for the game, but a stronger sense of community that continues to define The B.O.B.
Giving Back
In its fourth year, the tournament had grown enough to give back to the community, choosing to support the Youth on Course foundation. Youth on Course is a nonprofit that makes golf affordable and accessible for young people by partnering with courses and associations to remove financial barriers. Along with low‑cost play, the organization offers career development, leadership opportunities, and college scholarships that help kids build meaningful life skills.
This charity was chosen because of the founder’s recent focus on mental health—you never truly know what someone may be facing. Golf has been an important escape for Shawn, and every kid deserves a healthy outlet of their own. This opportunity can inspire the youth to give back someday, and may even change or save a life.
